CO-PRESIDENT

ABOUT: Margot (she/her/hers) is a 4th year Environmental Science Major and minors in Atmospheric & Oceanic Sciences; Conservation Biology; and Film & TV.

Why DGF? "It hadn't occurred to me that not all menstruators have access to period products and that the course of their lives are drastically altered because of this. I wanted to be part of an initiative that spreads awareness about period poverty.. I have learned so much about different cultural treatments of periods, the science behind periods, the social implications of periods, the environmental impact, etc.! I've also gained an amazing community of passionate and fearless individuals who are making moves to eliminate period poverty! I am so inspired by all of my co-directors and the general members! <3 This year, I hope to get more people to care about menstrual inequity!...I hope this year we can collaborate with more student organizations and expand our volunteer efforts.

EXTRA: Margot hones her interest in food recovery by getting involved in the Bruin Dine club and a Farmlink Internship. She also likes exploring LA, hiking, camping, sunset-watching at the beach, making graphics on Canva. As for fun facts, she speaks French, have a twin sister, and a pet Doberman pinscher named Ginger

CO-PRESIDENT

About: Amanda (she/her) is a 4th year MIMG Major and Gender Studies minor.

Why DFG?: "Even though I knew that menstrual inequity was a problem, I hadn't really thought about how I could affect change or do something about it. I ultimately joined DFG because I found the mission to be so empowering-- to actually volunteer and make the kits that will have a direct impact on the menstruators in other countries and allow for them to menstruate safer and be able to attend school. I have learned so much more about menstruation as in its biological process as well as all the communities affected by the taboo of menstruation. I've also learned a lot about the issues of exclusivity in the conversations surrounding menstruation, especially when it comes to cultural practices and the gendering of menstruation. This year I want to expand our reach to other communities affected by period poverty outside of just the ones we have been involved in right now. I would really like to see DFG at UCLA help the incarcerated population with menstrual supplies in particular. Additionally, I would like to have larger period packing parties and reusable menstrual fairs so that more people/menstruators can have access to free menstrual products! "

EXTRA: Amanda's the co-president of Community Health Collective, that make podcasts and volunteer through the Child Development Institute; a research assistant for the Bryson Lab, which investigates pediatric HIV; is really into rock climbing/bouldering; and thrifting.

.
Why DFG?: "I joined Days for Girls to find venues to directly advocate for underserved communities, especially women, gender non-conforming, BIPOC, and those with lower socioeconomic status." I believe that DFG's mission in fighting against menstrual inequity is very important. From DFG, I have gained further understanding of how our background such as our privilege affects our worldviews and experiences. This year, I hope to see menstruation in a more intersectional feminist perspective."

PUBLICITY & MEDIA DIRECTOR

About: Fiza (she/her) is a 3rd year Psychobiology Major.

Why DFG?: "I joined DFG because it stands for such an important cause that often gets overlooked in light of other social issues. DFG is a great community, and I share so many goals with the organization! I have gained so much insight into the experiences of menstruators both within the United States and outside of it. This has allowed me to appreciate my circumstances a lot more than I have in the past. This year, I hope to expand our social reach and get as many members involved in the club as possible. A specific goal of mine is to get more guys involved in the club because that's vital to destigmatizing periods!"

EXTRA: She is a member of Active Minds, a mental health club on campus, and also works at a psych clinic here at UCLA. Some of her hobbies and interests include working out, listening to music, journaling, nature, and psychology. A fun fact about her is that she is absolutely in LOVE with sriracha hot sauce <3

SERVICE/OUTREACH DIRECTOR

About: Anely (She/Her/Hers) is a 2nd year Biology major.

Why DGF?: "I joined DFG because although it is no surprise that there is a period poverty crisis, very little is being done to actually resolve the problem. I strongly believe that the reason why we have yet to pass legislation to make menstrual products readily available and affordable (if not free) is because of the stigmas that surround the topic of menstruations. For this reason, I wanted to focus my time on a club that worked towards awareness and advocacy on this issue." This year...I am hoping to be able to collaborate with other local organizations to...spread awareness about period inequities and normalize conversations about period injustices.

Why DGF?: Anely likes all sorts of art! She am looking to pursue a career as a Neonatal Physician Assistant and my favorite musical artists currently include Taylor Swift, Hozier, Muse, Pierce The Veil, and Ghost!

INTERNAL AFFAIRS DIRECTOR

About: Anna (she/her) is 4th year Sociology Major and Digital Humanities Minor.

Why DFG? "I joined DFG because I wanted to know more about period poverty, the resources that are and aren't available, and to learn about what I can do to help. Being in DFG has allowed me to help a broad community and has also given me a better understanding and awareness of women's health. For this school year, I hope we can secure enough funding so that we can buy supplies to hold period drives and also distribute period packages to homeless shelters."

EXTRA: Outside of DFG, she enjoys going on walks and hanging out with her friends and family.
